About Fiona
Personalised Approach
My motivation for teaching is to help students develop their own musical journey, discovering which style of playing they are most interested in, and helping them to grow as a musician and develop their skills. I believe strongly in encouraging students to find joy in their learning, and although I think it is important for some to study for exams, I don’t believe it is a necessity for all students. I do regularly enter pupils for Associated Board practical and theory examinations with a one hundred per cent pass rate. For those learning a more popular style, I have introduced them to the RockSchool exam board. Some pupils also choose to use the Trinity exam board.
Experienced and Professional
I attended the University of Liverpool to study Music and Popular Music, with a final study in popular piano. I then completed a Primary PGCE at Northumbria University. Since university I have worked as a primary school teacher for 8 years, keen to use my musical skills with children. I have been teaching music privately and in schools for the last 10 years. In 2013 I left the classroom and went full-time with my passion - private music tuition. I enjoy playing at weddings and parties: www.fionakingweddingpianist.co.uk
My Lessons
I keep a written record for all lessons given and students receive termly progress reports, written if required. This aids lesson planning and is a useful means of checking and maintaining pupil progress. Parent communication is very important to me, as I believe parents play an important role in supporting and encouraging practice outside of lessons. Payment is by bank transfer / cash or cheque and I will send a monthly invoice via email. I am fully DBS checked and hold public liability insurance.
